Cylinder / Rod magnets have a thickness which is equal to or larger than their diameter, this gives they a higher level of magnetism despite their lower surface area.  This uniqueness gives them a higher dept of field and provides a high Gauss for their small size.  These properties make them ideal for reed switches, research, education and experiments.
